Firmware: Signature Version: 2.376 2023/10/17 - Filling System Log with errors

Rooke
Star III

Router: RT-AC66U B1 (AC1750); Firmware Version: 3.0.0.4.51665 ;
On Tuesday, 2023/10/17, I noticed the entire System Log filled with the same repeating errors, all starting with error: "kernel: dcd/22609: potentially unexpected fatal signal 6." The only difference between the errors is the dcd number.

I checked the Administration menu, Firmware Upgrade tab, and found that the Firmware Signature Version had been updated to "2.376 2023/10/17 09:04" which was a couple of hours before I checked the logs.

After seeing that, I unplugged the Router for a few minutes and plugged it in again and let it boot up.

The errors went away for about an hour then came back. Subsequent (4) power off/on resulted in the same situation.

The errors do not seem to be affecting the router's performance, but the problem needs to be addressed by Asus. Attached is a snippet of the errors.

It's a good solution so thank you for taking the time to deal with it and post it but it's unfortunately about as good as saying "The solution is to buy another brand's router that doesn't have the issue"!

I've long thought about adding Merlin or another FW to my routers but have always come to the conclusion that I set up my routers one way and they seem to work fine so I don't need all the additional tweaking.  Otherwise I'd probably already be all over this.

Now if you said "Log on to the router via telnet and tweak this one config file in /usr/bin/blahblahblah" THAT I'd do in a heartbeat!

GOOD NEWS

Today Asus has released new firmware fixing the issue: ( no error since 5 hours)

ASUS RT-AC66U B1 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386_51668
Version 3.0.0.4.386_51668
98.78 MB
2023/11/30

1. Resolved an issue causing excessive log generation due to bwdpi issue.
2. Fixed a potential issue causing higher CPU utilization.

Please unzip the firmware file, and then verify the checksum.

Thank you, I've been standing on the beta release of this, waiting for the formal one. I'll likely install Wednesday or Thursday this week.

COOL!

I have not yet downloaded an official release and am using the pre-release one Asus pointed me to and, though it's been running fine since I installed it, I do see similar errors popping in.  Instead of a fatal signal 6 it's now a fatal signal 11 and it does seem to repeat many times in one second.  A vomit of info all at once.

Everyone might want to check their logs after installing the released FW.  I'll let this go until the weekend and install the released version to see if there's a difference.  Meanwhile, here's what I'm seeing albeit infrequently (everything else in the log is normal devices connecting and disconnecting many times during the day which sadly fill up the log so this is all I have on the error so far from yesterday) :

Signature 2.384 was made available as of last night.  Please try that.  If there's still an issue (with 2.384 and latest BIOS) try turning off AiProtection and report the problem...
