Router slowing down internet speed

petarbg
Star I

Hello, please help.

I have an RT-AC88U router. I've found that it is reducing my internet speed. The maximum I am getting on the speed test is 94 Mbs but my ISP is providing 400Mbs.

ISP modem is plugged into RT-AC88U and it worked fine for years until recently. As soon as I directly connect ISP router, everything is fine with the speade which leaves ASUS router as a problem.

I've tried different cables, all LAN ports and also factory reset, and various firmware updates but there is no change.

Please help.

Try to clone the MAC address of the device you connect directly to the modem and get full speeds.

Hi @petarbg ,

Thank you for reaching out to us!

Based on the issue you encountered, we suggest checking the following:

  1. Log in to the router management interface and verify whether the WAN port connection speed is 1Gbps. If it shows 100Mbps, it might be a speed limitation issue.
  2. Ensure you are using a network cable of Cat5e or higher standard, and try cross-testing with other cables.
  3. Navigate to the "Adaptive QoS" or "Bandwidth Management" section in the router interface, disable all QoS settings, and check if the issue is resolved.
  4. Confirm that the router firmware has been updated to the latest version.

If the issue persists, consider performing a factory reset on the router. Please refer to the related FAQ for detailed instructions.
