Asus zenwifi be14000 upload speed issues

lunatix4

I recently upgraded to an ASUS Zenwifi be14000 and am having some issues with upload speeds.

My setup

I have ATT BGW320 router setup in IP passthrough for 1ghz speed connection. Asus router is connected from the ATT router Lan port to the wan port on the ASUS router by cat 6 cable, new. I then have the Lan connection on the ASUS router with a cat 6 cable to the switches for the home. First issues I noticed was incredibly low speeds both up and down. So, after reading a forum I turned QOS on, Lan speeds returned to normal. Wi-Fi was then tested by moving to different channels and finding the best ones. Download speeds are great at above 800, but upload speeds are horrendous. I get 23 max on upload and it doesn't matter what changes I make the Wi-Fi remains terrible for uploads. I have fast DNS setup under wan per support person I spoke with and am on the 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 settings. Is there something I'm missing that is affecting the upload speeds?

Returned my BE14000.

In addition to the upload speed issue, not all clients were able to connect to the mesh, plus saw a lot of error messages related to wireless connection, in the router's log.

New update, short version: I give up. I will be returning this and buying something else.

ASUS Support hadn't called me by Thursday afternoon as promised so I called them after 4pm Eastern. First tier customer support confirmed it had been escalated, couldn't explain why I hadn't been called, and transferred me to first-tier B2B customer support (clearly the wrong place). That guy was extremely sympathetic and put a rush on the ticket, and said they should call me by Friday.

They didn't call on Friday.

Today, Monday at 4pm Eastern, I called B2B customer support. They were very sympathetic and confirmed it had been escalated and rushed, and couldn't explain why I hadn't been called, and put me on hold for a while. Then she came back and said it had been escalated to her department. After confirming I'd been through all the troubleshooting steps, she said all she could offer was that it could be sent in for repair and then sent back to me, leaving me without any device for however long that might take. Alternately, I could take it back to the retailer and get a replacement.

I confirmed with her that there is nothing in their records to indicate any sort of compatibility problem with FIOS ONTs, even though there is clearly a history of such on the Internet. Either people aren't reporting their trouble to customer support, or ASUS is not recording it, or ASUS is not admitting it.

I would caution anyone reading this in the future, if you're using FIOS, avoid ASUS.

Hi @lunatix4 @alexeiyo @msirota ,

thank you very much for contacting us and for explaining in detail the upload speed issue you're experiencing after upgrading to the ASUS ZenWiFi BE14000 router. Below are the troubleshooting steps we recommend you try, along with how we will further assist you:

  1. Check Network Cables: Please ensure that all the Cat 6 network cables you are using are in good condition and properly connected. Check if there is any damage or if any cables are loose.
  2. Update Firmware: Please make sure that the firmware on your ASUS ZenWiFi BE14000 router is updated to the latest version. You can download and install the newest firmware update from the official ASUS website.
  3. Check QoS Settings: Although your LAN speed returned to normal after enabling QoS, please check the detailed configuration of your QoS settings. Ensure that the QoS settings are not limiting your upload speed or have incorrect priority settings. Try disabling the QoS feature to confirm if the QoS configuration is affecting the upload speed.
  4. Restart Devices: Please restart both your ATT BGW320 router and your ASUS router to ensure that the IP Passthrough setting takes effect.
  5. Check MTU Settings: In the management interface of your ASUS router, please check and adjust the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) settings to see if this improves your upload speed.

If the problem persists after trying these steps, please use the feedback function in your router's system to send us the relevant logs.

Please follow the steps below to report the issue, and we will assist you:

  1. Connect your device (PC, laptop, etc.) to the router, then open the Web management interface (http://router.asus.com/) and log in to your router.
  2. Click on "System Administration" and select "Problem Report."
  3. Fill in your region, email address (required), ASUS service/case number, issue type, and a description of the issue.
  4. Please read and agree to the privacy policy and relevant service terms.
  5. Click "Send" to submit your form.

Additionally, please send us the following information via private message: product serial number, the time the problem report was submitted, the email used for the problem report, the time the issue occurred, the MAC address of your device, and a network architecture diagram of your current environment.

If your network is down, the UI page will generate a link for downloading offline data. Please click the link to download the data, compress it into a ZIP file, and provide a cloud link for us to analyze.

Thank you for your cooperation.

@Aureliannn_ASUS , all (or at least most) of that information should be available in case N2504009537-003. Do you have access to that?

Other details:

  • You mentioned Cat 6 network cables. I have tried many cables, including and especially the one that came in the box with the kit, but all are Cat 5e. None of the tech support people recommended I go out and buy a cat 6 cable for testing. (If it requires Cat 6, why did it come with Cat 5e?)
  • My FIOS ONT is not an ATT BGW320, it is a Nokia G-211M-C. However, both devices have been reset and restarted multiple times throughout this process, including while on the phone with tech support.
  • I don't see a place to play with the MTU settings for the WAN link. None of the support techs I spoke with asked me to do that. Can you point me to the right place?

I did resets etc...and use a cat 6 cable, all my stuff uses those cables. QOS does not impact speeds activated. Without QOS activated downloads drop to 100 for wired, lower for wireless, upoads drop to 100 wired, same 2-10 for upload.  using the 3.0.0.6.102.56839 firmware and I keep devices connected but the connection for uploads is crap and streaming usually has to buffer 3-5 seconds when switching apps and channels. On old netgear 750's I get 950 up/down for wired and wireles varies but upload/download speeds are at 350-400 minimum for the netgear. Its only since switching to wifi 7 for netgear-devices dropped always and now asus, slow uploads and feels sluggish, even on wired computers that get great connection. Using the google DNS, tried cloudfare and had disastrous numbers so switched back. Have reset all devices and tried multiple steps to resolve without any assistance really, so, nothing seemed to work.
