How to external monitor to work? ASUS Zenbook - USB3.1 Gen1 Type-C

My understanding, I have a very expensive laptop with garbage USB-c Gen 1 that doesn't support video. Will this work with a USB-HDMI adapter that has an actual external video/graphics card built-in?

An USB Type-C to HDMI External Video Adapter. I would think that would work, but I'm not sure. Does it not matter what is connected this type of port just won't support any type of display/video throughput?
