Camera crashes on selfie cam in landscape mode (Android 15)

Since the Android 15 update, the camera app on my Zenfone 10 crashes, whenever I take a picture with the selfie cam in landscape mode when the phone is rotated to the right (!).

- deleting cache/data didn't help

- phone does not crash in portrait or when rotated to the left (!)

- the camera app crashes about 1 second after taking the picture while saving the image

- the image file is lost / not saved

- the crash is 100% reproducible on my phone

- with Android 14 it worked properly

- other camera apps work properly (e.g. Gcam)

That's right. I just made another round of tests, and found out something, I didn't realise before.

The behaviour only happens when rotated to the right (my prefered mode for selfies, since I usually hold the phone in my left hand and can reach the shutter button with the left thumb).

It seems that it always happens with brighter scenes (sun/sky or lamp in background). But, the crash can possibly be avoided in darker scenes (e.g. covering the lens with a finger).

I've just performed the latest system update and unfortunately the behaviour persists.

I seem to have the same underlying problem! I can take a selfie alone in portrait and landscape mode no problem, but once I have it in landscape mode with multiple faces I can see the picture got taken, then the app cashes, every time, and the picture is not saved. (I rarely take pictures with many faces in portrait mode)

Just to add to my previous post. I tested this on my boyfriend's phone who also has a Zenfone 10, and he was getting the same result. Try and take a landscape selfie with two faces recognised (with the white boxes), and takes photo, miniature of photo shows for a moment in the corner, app crashes, no photo was saved.
