Post Forced Windows Update System Failures

MAKAO

I'm experiencing severe issues after a forced Windows 11 update on my Asus Zenbook Duo 14 (UX842):

  • Settings Reset: ASUS-specific settings including dual-screen options, Windows background, and personalization were reset.
  • Driver Problems: Some drivers malfunctioned and subsequently required update or re-install.
  • Boot Issues: Enabling VMD in BIOS now results in a "boot drive not acceptable" error. Disabling VMD and Secure Boot temporarily solves this, but re-enabling causes system failure. Figuring this out was a major depressor, as it took 2 hours of tinkering since my laptop broke the moment the update finished, and no CMD, restore or restart options solved it until by pure chance i discovered this work around.

Questions:

  1. Update Control: Is there a way to completely stop Windows Updates without causing increased resource usage? (Disabling via services seems to still consume resources.) and worth mentioned i HATE windows (not consumer friendly) and i would not be using if i did not have to.
  2. Similar Experiences: Has anyone else encountered similar problems post-update?
  3. Battery Detection: The MyAsus app now detects unspecified battery issues that weren't present before the update. Also before the update by a few days my battery drain become 3x worse and my laptop went from 6 hours SOT to just 1.5~2 hours, and the update did not solve it, rather seems to be making it worse as the laptop now constantly heats up.

Any insights or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

@MAKAO
Could you please provide the complete model number of the laptop you are using?

As system updates are automatically pushed by the system, from our standpoint, we do not recommend users to disable system updates. If you wish to disable system updates, you may need to search online for the relevant operation commands to achieve this.

Regarding the battery, we recommend using the MyASUS diagnostic feature to check the battery's condition.
