Wired connection in AiMesh with RT-AC68U

Hello,

I would like to setup an AiMesh between the router RT-BE86U and the node RT-AC68U. I followed the guide in https://zentalk.asus.com/t5/faq/aimesh-can-i-set-up-wired-connection-between-aimesh-routers/ta-p/407.... Apparently this should be possible by using the WAN connection in the node. However, I do not have a WAN port in the RT-AC68U: the WAN port can be manually set up to a LAN port, but it is not by default. Configuration of a node requires a clean setup, so I cannot setup the WAN port first, and then start the AiMesh setup procedure.

Is there away to setup wired backhaul in this condition?

Thank you!

I could not verify if available but the next closest thing to AiMesh is if you can use it as an Access Point.  Set SmartConnect on and all SSIDs and passwords the same.

Hello

I have a RT-BE92U router with RT-AX59U and RT-AC68U as mesh nodes. The 59U node connects fine cabled, but the 68U won't connect with cable. So I have to use wifi 5GHz for 68U. Happily wifi connection is great (49dBm). But I have found no way to connect it with cable just as  you experience. I guess Asus did not make it possible?

Set the RT AC68U up in repeater mode and use it like that for a day or so. You can keep it as a repeater or you can try using it again as a mesh node. Sometimes a hidden switch gets stuck and using repeater mode can get it working again. I had the same experience with a BE96U until I  ran it in repeater mode for a day or two. Afterwards, it connected as a mesh node just fine and has given no more problems.

Factory reset the RT-AC68U.  Delete it from the AiMesh of the primary router.  Connect the two directly from the AC68U WAN/LAN port to a LAN port on the primary router.  Then have it search for an AiMesh node to set up.  It should "see" the AC68U connected with Ethernet indicated by an Ethernet jack symbol.  Add the unit.  If you need to relocate it turn it off, move it, reconnect the Ethernet cable to the same port, which now is okay thought network switch(es), and it should work.  (I hope).

You just described what I did a number of times. As you wrote, I hoped. It did not work. Thanks for suggestion.
