Well, I guess I spoke to soon. I have some internet connectivity, ie. a few web pages like bing.com, google.com and so forth. I have nordvpn set up and connected (shows connected). But pulling up ip check on webpage show's otherwise. Also, reguardless of vpn status (on/off), when I check ipv6 status website(s), It shows ipv6 as working and ipv4 as not available/detected.
This is a new router, latest firmware. I'm using "passthrough" in routers ipv6 settings and I have yet to find dns server settings location for the vpn.
I guess I have IPv6 internet access but no IPv4 internet access...to sum it up.
Any idea's?

yesterday
Finally figured it out.
A downstream router, xx611-GT4, which often needs a hard reset after power glitches, needed another reset. This time it wouldn't reset, maybe firmware?
Anyway, I have a xx611-8PT that fits in the same footprint. Problem solved.
One last question, does Asus make a router or switch that will fit the same footprint? I haven't found any active products, maybe a legacy one that someone might recall?
Thanks again for everyones help.

Thanks for repling. By the numbers:
1. This is a new router, straight out of the box. I updated the firmware immediately upon receipt. The latest firmware does have bugs, although I don't have a complete list. On the plus side, I have found a copy of wrt-merlin that has been confirmed working on the RT-AX82U. I will try if all else fails.
2. This is a new configuration from scratch. I have reset it when updating the firmware and while solving a previous issue.
3. I have previously tried disabling firewalls on desktop and laptop. Router firewall is still disabled. No help. Everything on the network can be seen and heard, just no internet for the most part. This applies to both wired and wireless devices.
4. All cables are the same as with the old router that is being replaced. Old setup worked flawless for 15 plus years, although it was using a different internet setup...wan vs usb. Problem applies to wired and wireless connections.
5. Well, you had to mention the isp, sadly I am stuck with t-mobile. There are no other options here. Coverage is horrid at best, however we all know this already, so moving along.
I have found that t-mobile now blocking IPv4 connections on their APN settings. ( Yes, they are greyed out, so no I can not change them back). Not sure when they changed them. Wifi tethering works directly with desktop using TP-Link card. (WN-xx as I recall). This has been my default setup since the lost of dsl, cable, and yes dial-up.
Usb tethered directly to windows 7 desktop works perfect also, I have not tried windows 10 desktop yet. I hear that TP-link automatically tranlates packets 6to4 6in4, etc. I recall seeing this on the RT-AX82U settings. I plan on experimenting with it tonight or tomorrow. .night. If no luck then I think I'll flash the wrt-merlin firmware. That should rule out asus' firmware.
Thoughts?

Sorry, have not had time to troubleshoot lately. I did manage to sub my fone with my work done and my work laptop with my desktop via Lan ( rj-45). Still have same issues and also found vpn not getting passed through router. Router is bypassing it via ipv6 after the firmware changes. After reading all the issues asus has with their firmware I will try to flash the Merlin firmware this week and report the difference(s). Something else that stuck out today... Bing.com and yahoo.com also popped up on my browser. However duckduckgo.com and Google.com would not come up. If I did a search in Bing, it worked, however if I clicked on any of the links they would not open. Does that make any sense?
