Please tell us some basic information before asking for help:

  1. Model Name: Asus Zenfone 5z, 6z , Max Pro M1, Max Pro M2, ROG Phone 2, ROG Phone 3
  2. Firmware Version: All
  3. Rooted or not: No
  4. Frequency of Occurrence: -
  5. APP Name & APP Version (If your issue relates to the app): Calling (VoLTE and VoWifi)

In addition to information above, please also provide as much details as you can, e.g., using scenario, what troubleshooting you've already done, screenshot, etc.

There is a very large subscriber base of Airtel subscribers in India. Along with Jio, Airtel subscribers also contribute to the majority of 4g users. However, for some weird reason, ASUS phones are not recognized by Airtel as either supporting VoLTE or VoWiFi.

VoLTE can still be used in ASUS phones for Airtel through one of these tricks:

1) Using the sim in a Airtel supported phone beforehand (eg: Samsung, iPhone)

2) Forcing customer care executive to activate VoLTE for your SIM even though they keep arguing that your device is not recognized as Airtel VoLTE compatible.

Airtel's official website does not even recognize ASUS as a smartphone brand.

For VoWiFi none of those above tricks even work. So Airtel VoWifi is a no go on ASUS phones.

Airtel's official website doesn't recognize ASUS even as smartphone brand, and its not like they don't update the page because infant brands like iQOO are there.

All I am asking is, is there an issue with Airtel and ASUS that we do not know about. If so, can it be resolved since Airtel is a major player in this country. Thanks!

@Averan @aamod.v8 @amitgarde3 please escalate this if you can. Thanks!

  • We will try, but cant promise as update cycle may end real soon

  • I don't want it particularly for 5z but any Asus device I might be getting in the future. Also so many other users using other newer devices that are well within their update cycles. Its a general request. Just make the mods look into it please. thanks!

  • For 5z i cant guarantee you but chances are like 50-50 due to support cycle

But as you said for future models dont worry about that you will not be dissappointed and this is already under considerations

  • I would like to share my personal experience. I am using airtel in my 5z since bought and i had no issue at all for volte services. Firstly i was using my sim card on htc one m8 ( volte not suppored) but when i bought 5z i inserted my sim on it and without contacting customer care or someone else i am getting volte services seamlessly. I don't know if airtel supports 5z or not but until now no complain for volte.

  • Thank you. I will write to Airtel regarding the same too. I have been observing them constantly ignoring ASUS as a brand ever since I was using the Zenfone 2 Laser (ZE550KL). Don't know what the reason is but 3 years is far too much time to not acknowledge a brand in your website where Xiaomi and POCO get separate categories. Thank you for the support would like this to be resolved.

  • VoLTE is already there for Airtel in Asus phones in India.

Kindly check. Many people use Airtel sim in their phones and @sidarya31 he is using Airtel in 5z and he's getting VoLTE properly. Bro please post a SS and show him that you're getting VoLTE in your 5z.

But can't say anything about VoWiFi for Airtel. Maybe we'll get VoWiFi for Airtel in 5z. I wish they give us the update for Airtel too.

  • Not talking about that. What I am saying is, if you purchase a new Airtel sim and put it inside any ASUS device for the first time, VoLTE is not activated automatically. You either have to call customer care and get VoLTE activated manually or use the sim in a MI, Oneplus, Samsung phone for a few hours. This happens because Airtel as a carrier does not recognize Asus phones as VoLTE capable. No problem in the phones as such.

  • Anyway are we getting support for Airtel VoWifi for 5z. VoWifi is kind of incomplete if we leave out a major carrier. Can any mod help with any information. Thanks!

  • Sad to say don't expect it. Only bug fix update is left+ no other Asus devices till now recieved vowifi support. Still Asus is discussing with Airtel to get vowifi activated for their first priority phones like Zf6,Zf7 and Rog 2,3. So chances are very very less for 5z :(

For Jio the VoWiFi is working great. No problems so far. I guess the problem is with Airtel. They are chortel. Asus didn't had any problem to enable VoWiFi for 5z but facing problem with Airtel. Airtel is money hogger. They don't work until you pay them. Their plans are costly, no proper 4G coverage (weak), still uses old IP protocol, VoLTE is not there in some remote areas, 4G is not dependable switches to 2G automatically and frequently.

  • I didn't faced any problem like you faced. I did used an Airtel sim on 30th July 2018 that time 5z did catched both Jio as well as Airtel VoLTE at the same time.

I know some won't believe me but I used it so I know it. I just purchased the New Airtel sim and installed it in 5z and bam VoLTE came to Airtel too at that time.

  • Back in November 2019, when I purchased my Airtel SIM this happened so just wanted you guys to know. I'm sure some of you may have faced this too.

  • Happy New Year all, it has been a while and I don't actually mind porting to JIO once my pack validity ends but here's something I want you guys to help me with if possible. I'm still skeptical about using JIO as my primary number. I use just one sim and its important that it is reachable most of the time. Other usages include some travelling within cities and sometimes to remote areas. Airtel is not the best network out there but in most places at least the voice calls work. Data speeds are okayish in most places too. Is JIO reliable enough throughout India? Please help. Thanks!

  • @subhojit.dey Yes jio is reliable in most of the places but it's not perfect so we can't do anything but if u are planning to port to jio then I say go ahead

I'm using only one sim card that is "Jio" and that too as a primary number.

What I have seen till this time that Jio is the best suitable Sim card for 5z users. I have used every company's sim but the most reliable one is Reliance Jio.

I personally I can't confirm about the Internet Speed but yes what I can confirm is Jio is the only company which has the biggest 4G network coverage reach pan India, if not the best. Because you know 2G has better coverage than 4G but hey who use 2G after paying 4G charges, just to call?

Jio has very good 4G network reach if compared to others. This is I can confirm but remember there is always a term "T&C applied" applies on every matter.

So research a bit and then port.

  • Thanks all! This is helpful.

However ASUS should still look forward to working with Airtel and maintain essential features. Thanks!
