Only to find this is a very common issue with the model. Just died in the middle of use, now absolutely no signs of life. How disappointing. I am still covered under extended warranty from the retailer I bought it from (in Australia), but from all the posts I've seen Asus either replaces the motherboard or provides a replacement instead of bothering to repair. However I have photos on there that I want to recover. I don't even really want a replacement, I just want to be done within Asus I have absolutely no trust in them. Ideally I would get a refund and keep my dead device (so I can find a specialised technician to reball the cpu/ram) but I don't think they'll let that happen. What a headache. Do better Asus.

My Zenfone 8 died in exactly the same way. Up until now I have purchased multiple ASUS devices. Starting with a fist one, a laptop, in 2008. I was pretty happy with it although it had to be repaired 2 or 3 times during the warranty period. The repairs were done efficiently and the laptop worked many many years after. Encouraged by this, I have purchased another laptop in 2014. It worked and still works just fine. Around 2016 I had to replace my phone. After days of research I decided to buy a Zenfone 3, that was in 2016 and it still works by the way. Fantastic phone, small, fast with nice and good working software. I was very happy with it. So when the time came I switched to Zenfone 8 in 2021. It was a natural choice after being so happy with Zenfone 3. Moreover 8 had very good "papers" comparing to competition. I ordered the phone directly from ASUS and paid 599 euro for it. Again a fantastic phone, I was very happy with it. Until two weeks ago when it suddenly died. It wasn't very nice, but it can happen I thought. I planned to send it for repair since I had only good experience with ASUS and it's customer care. It could not go wrong, right? Well, it could. I am heavily disappointed with the phone which died within less than 3 years of use and even more so with the price for repair, around 600 euros. I decided to not repair the phone. I can pick and chose within the price range. I think it has been my last ASUS device, the trust is gone.
