WiFi not working

NickBlueEyed

My WiFi just suddenly stopped working and it doesn't turn on. I tried restarting the phone, but no luck. I don't know if it broke after an update, but the Bluetooth option seems to be working fine, so it doesn't seem like a physical damage or something. Please help.

According to what you described, please refer to the following FAQ to try to troubleshoot your Wi-Fi problem first.

Asus will not be helpful in this matter. If you look at other posts on here, you'll find that Falcon_ASUS has been copy-pasting the exact same message to everyone despite knowing that most of us are out of warranty. They know this is a critical ongoing issue with the motherboard but will refuse to fix it for free if you're not under warranty. I suggest you look at other phone brands in the future.

I actually found a solution for my WiFi not working problem.

What I found is that once WiFi is not working, restarting phone does not help. However, if I shutdown phone and re-start it few seconds later, then WiFi works!

I had a "bad" app, which was crashing my phone at random intervals, pushing it into WiFi not working state. I used LogCat to figure out which app was crashing and once I removed it, WiFi "always" works.

Interesting. I can't seem to find any other abnormal logcat logs in mine. I booted the phone in safe mode, disabled any unnecessary apps (to the point where the only apps in the menu were phone, messages, camera, and settings). The phone booted into airplane mode and when I tried turning on the wifi, the slider remained grey. I believe the issue I'm facing is actually a hardware issue rather than a software issue. I'm glad you were able to get yours sorted!

Just curious - what app was causing the issue if you don't mind me asking?

please share how you found out the troublemaking app, thanks a lot!
