My Zenfone 8 suddenly went completely dead while I was using it, specifically while watching YouTube. When I try to charge it, only the LED indicator lights up. I've already taken it to a service center in my city, but the repair costs are very high, almost the same as buying a new Zenfone 8 unit. Has anyone experienced something similar? Are there any alternative solutions? My warranty has already expired.

Congratulations, you have probably experienced the famous ramdump issue that ASUS has never publicly adressed.
Have a look here: https://zentalk.asus.com/t5/zenfone-8/zenfone8-stuck-on-waiting-for-flashing-full-ramdump/td-p/23596...
Basically, if you don't want to pay to fix your phone, you can use it as a paperweight or throw it in the e-waste bin, where it belongs. And you can say goodbye to anthing that was stored on the phone.

Was this solved? I have experienced a similar problem a few days ago while filming. Now it is completely dead and the light indicator does not even turn on when charging (tried different chargers).

Can't speak for the OP, but my phone has been at ASUS since 8/21... 99% you are out of luck and lost anything on your device... try and make an RMA request or reach out and create your own thread explaining. The moderators on here are pretty good and may be able to facilitate your repair or communication with customer service.
As they won't say what causes the failure, OR if the issue has been addressed in new parts going forward, my advice is to not rely on this device, and move to another one as soon as feasible. I'm not sure if Zenfone 9 or 10 have this issue, but ASUS is losing my trust with their lack of transparency.

My phone died last night after shutting down after almost two years of no issues. Completely dead. No LED when plugged in, nothing. After chatting with CS chat, I was also given the choice to send it in with an $85 non-refundable diagnostic fee to determine the cause. If my motherboard needs to be replaced, has anybody gotten a quote on this? I'm a year out of warranty, but I don't believe an utterly dead phone after two years or normal use has anything to do with the warranty. To me, that is a product defect. My old school Nokia later 6 years until I was tired of playing that snake game.
