I purchased an ASUS Zenbook on August 6th of this year. If I leave it idle, it will heat up to the point of turning off. It is super hot. This has happened when it was plugged into the charger. I have had to unplug it and let it cool down for sometime before attempting to turn it back on. If it was still hot/warm, it would not come back on. I am really frustrated as this is a new laptop that was not cheap. Can anyone offer insights on this issue?

Oh 6 years is a long time. Hope you may have got it into service for at least fan clean up. As dust clogs overtime and it needs to be cleaned in due time regularly to get the best performance of your device.
Its nature of dust like a magnet to stick on fan blades and best way to to get it cleaned is manual brushing.
