Asus Vivobook Pro 14 Fingerprint scanner not working after bios upgrade

Hi All,

I've a Asus Vivobook Pro 14 (MQ7400QE) and after upgrading BIOS from 307 to 311 I've noticed that the fingerprint scanner which is integrated in to the power button is not being detected by Windows 11.

Homepage: https://www.asus.com/laptops/for-home/vivobook/vivobook-pro-14x-oled-m7400-amd-ryzen-5000-series/hel...

I used MyAsus app on my laptop to upgrade the BIOS. After the upgrade when I rebooted I'd to use my Windows pin to login.

I opened Device Manager and find that no Biometric Hardware is detected.

I also downloaded and installed the driver for the Biometric Authentication from the homepage under "Drivers and Utilities" section. This too hasn't helped in detecting the Biometric hardware.

I also tried downgrading the BIOS using the EZ Flash Utility in the BIOS but I think downgrades are not possible.

I would appreciate if someone could help in enabling the finger print scanner on my laptop.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I've been observing the behavior for a few days and I notice that the probing of the sensor is flaky. Windows sometimes shows the Biometric device and I'm able to use the fingerprint to unlock and most of the times the sensor fails to get detected. I'm not sure if the part has gone bad but Windows keeps loosing the device on and off.

I also tried live booting a Linux distribution (Ubuntu) on the laptop and lsusb shows the ELAN finger print scanner. There are instance where lsusb doesn't even show the sensor.

Is it possible that there is a loose connection ?

I also have contacted local support and Identified the service center to take the laptop for further diagnosis. I'll update once I get the diagnosis done.

Thanks.
