My Asus ROG 9 Pro completely shuts down when the camera is used 8 out of 10 times. When this happens, it takes between 30 seconds and up to 1 minute before it restarts.
I also experience frequent quick reboots – it happens in a split second, and then the phone is ready again. However, after such a reboot, apps like Spotify may suddenly require me to log in again (as an example).
This started happening after the latest update, version 35.1810.1810.164.
Do I really need to perform a factory reset on the phone and start over after Asus' latest update, or will this issue with the shutdowns be fixed?

This's an issue that was also present in the ROG 6, due to hardware defects and cold soldering.
Your options are to return product or never use camera related features.
Even if the system blocks camera access, Android internally tries to access the camera hardware, which causes the phone to freeze and reboot.
