ROG Phone 7 Ultimate Stuck in Boot Loop

I have a US version ROG Phone 7 Ultimate that has been upgraded to Android 14 since March 2, 2024 and today was the first time I have rebooted the phone since the upgrade and am stuck in a boot loop where the phone boots up and gets to the unlock screen, but then after a couple seconds shows the ROG logo again and a few seconds later goes back to the unlock screen over and over again.

I tried steps I found of others mentioning the same problem of boot looping for the ROG Phone 7 on Reddit.  Steps recommended were plugging phone in for a few minutes, PWR+VOLDown for reboots, safe mode booting does not work, and leaving plugged in to power for over 30 minutes. None of those steps worked.

After several things tried, I found something that consistently works for me so far to stop the boot looping. By ejecting the SIM card from the phone, the phone will do the boot loop 1 or 2 more times and then stay up with no issues, except that the cellular service is unavailable. However, if I reinsert the SIM card again, the boot looping starts up again until I remove the SIM card again. I have tried it in SIM card slots 1 and 2 with same results. I have also tried different SIM cards as well with same results.

When I originally upgraded to Android 14 on my ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, it went to version WW_Phone-34.1010.0820.60-0. After figuring out leaving the SIM card out stopped the boot looping and I could use the phone again, I checked for an update and there was one that upgraded it to WW_Phone-34.1010.0820.65-0. However this update did nothing to fix my problem.

I am posting this up in case it helps someone else with the same problem to at least be able to get to their data and apps on the phone. I can't deal with a factory reset at this time though but at least I can back up configurations of apps on the phone in case I have to go that route. However, it is seriously ridiculous that these flagship phones would have this issue!

This is the same thing that I got the two different times I contacted support today. They both ended in an RMA or factory reset. Restarted my phone Sunday night because it was dropping my calls even though I had Internet and now if I turn on my data or Wi-Fi I get sent to a boot loop. Very frustrating

Try taking your SIM out, you won't be able to make calls or text, but you should still be able to use internet on it for the time being.

As long as I'm able to use WiFi connection I'll be satisfied. I can put the sim card in my old Black Shark 2 pro I just want to actually be able to use the phone I paid so much for. Hopefully they release some updated A14 or something soon

I have the ROG Phone 6 pro and could not be without the phone so I removed the SIM to stop the boot loop and then copied my files to my  PC.  I then performed a Factory Reset.(DID NOT FIX IT...kinda) What follows is detail of what had transpired.

I did a FacReset. Did the initial setup (Without google account connection) Got my Phone/SMS to work then went to sleep. 7hrs later (and with a full charge 100%) I began to set up the phone to my personal tastes. about 20min later it it occurred to me to try a reboot. And then the phone got stuck in a boot loop again.

So I did a FacReset a second time. I did the initial setup but this time with google account connection. I then restarted the phone and did not get a boot loop. I then repeated what I did previously step by step

1) Uninstalled all apps that I did not want then restarted. Did not get the boot loop.
2) Configured SMS app and installed SmartThings, then restarted. Did not get the boot loop.
3) Set up network settings (auto connect, shared Wifi/Mobile data for stability, Dual band, etc) restarted and did not get the boot loop.
4) I waited a few more hours and tweaked some random settings that I did not change the first time around, restarted and did not get the boot loop.

At this point, I am going to just roll with it, reconfig my phone the way it was before and NEVER reboot the phone. I will live in fear of a reboot until the next android update and may still live in fear after that.

If you are going to factory reset, my advice would be do it twice in a row before putting in effort to set up and then dont reboot if you can avoid it. (At least that is what I will do based upon what I have experienced)

This is really helpful. I'm definitely gonna do this when I get home. I'm fine not rebooting but I need the phone to work 😭
