ZenWiFi Pro mesh: One AP reports no clients even though clients are connected

Star I

I'm experiencing a weird bug.

I have a ZenWiFi Pro ET12 mesh with one router and four APs distributed through my house (two upstairs, two downstairs). I've been using three APs for a while, and I just added a fourth.

After rebooting the APs, updating the firmware on all of the APs including the new one, and running Optimize, I find that I have a solid network with good performance throughout.

However, one of my APs - not the new one, one of the older ones that has performed fine until now - reports no clients. The router shows that that this AP is connected, but when I click on Network Map, all four fields (Icon, Clients Name, Client IP address, and Interface) are listed as "No data in table."

The weird part is that this AP is clearly connecting about eight nearby devices. I can ping them, I can access them via their respective interfaces, etc. Still, the AP reports that it has no clients and no information about them. And the devices that are obviously connected to it don't show up in the "Clients" list on the main network map page.

I've tried rebooting both the main router and the AP in particular - no dice.

Any suggestions?

Hi @sfsdfd ,

Regarding your report that one of the AP nodes in your ZenWiFi Pro ET12 system shows "No clients" in the Network Map UI despite having active connected devices, we’d like to suggest the following steps for initial troubleshooting:

  1. Check whether the AP is communicating properly with the main router:
Log in to the main router and go to the System Log or Status page to verify that the affected AP is online and that the mesh backhaul connection is stable (not disconnected or degraded).
  2. Try removing and re-adding the affected AP to the mesh system:
In some cases, the AP’s internal database may become inconsistent. Rejoining the mesh system can help rebuild the topology and synchronize client information.
  3. Avoid using static IP settings or third-party DHCP servers (e.g., from a NAS device):
These configurations may prevent the main router from accurately retrieving client information from the AP.
  4. Ensure all units (main router and all APs) are updated to the latest firmware version:
Some earlier firmware versions have known issues with client list synchronization in the UI.
  5. You may also perform a hard reset on the affected AP, then reconfigure and check if the issue still occurs. [Wireless Router] When Standard Reset Isn’t Working: Hard Factory Reset - Models list | Official Sup...

For further analysis by our technical team, please kindly provide the following information:

  • Firmware version of all devices (main router and all APs)
  • The device name or MAC address of the affected AP
  • A screenshot of the Network Map and System Log at the time the issue occurs (If the network is disconnected at the time of reporting, the interface will generate an offline data download link. Please download the data, compress it into a .zip file, upload it to any cloud storage (e.g., Google Drive), and share the link with us.)

Additionally, please send us the following details via private message to assist with backend processing:

  • Product serial number
  • Time the report was submitted
  • Email address used in the report
  • Approximate time the issue occurred
  • A basic network topology diagram (e.g., main router > APs > wired/wireless paths)

And please indicate whether the AP is using a wired or wireless backhaul connection.

We will compile this information and forward it to our technical team for further investigation.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
