Zen WiFi Pro ET12 - What is the state of the most recent firmware version...still broken or OK?

Fellow Zen WiFi Pro ET12 users, just wanted to ask how many of you are successfully using the latest firmware version for your routers/nodes and what firmware version is that?

Reason for my question is I and many others had a really bad headache earlier this year back in April after updating to the latest firmware version at that time. Where the node(s) ended up yellow with no connected clients after the firmware upgrade. All described in detail in this now locked thread.

I and others eventually managed to "solve" the problem after lots of hassle by downgrading to version 3.0.0.4.388_24542-g719e902 which is the version I'm still running after the adventure back in April. The kind of adventure I don't like to experience again.

With this said, from a security perspective, it doesn't feel all great being on a old version and would love to be on the latest one. As long as it won't cause any issues and leave me with a non-working WiFi again.

Big thanks in advance for your input guys!

Yes local network connection UPnP I believe is set default to off on the newer firmware.  I have had trouble connecting to NAS on Windows 11.  If that is the concern it was partly a Windows 24H2 update that caused an issue.

EDIT:  SAMBA share issue addressed in this document:

A later Windows 11 update blocked access even with one of these methods.  I ended up applying 1b and 2a to return access to my NAS on Windows 11.

OK, that's interesting.

So what you're saying is that latest firmware where the other guy had issues after updating could have been resolved simply by changing a setting in his router which was disabled in the new version of the software?

If that is the case, I might give the latest firmware version another go when I find time for it. Can't risk anything weekdays though since I rely heavily on a working WiFi for work.

@dankirsh - This might be of interest to you as well. Are you still on an old version of the firmware or maybe you already figured it out?

Thanks for the tip. I was having a ton of issues and eventually tried switching to Eero 7 pro. That was a disaster and worked worse than expected (strong signal, but random disconnects) despite the high cost.

I  then decided to give the ET12 another try. I was on the older firmware and did a factor reset. Then, before making any changes, I upgraded to the latest firmware and everything somehow was working fine again. My 3 nodes have been working well without recurrent issues.

However, recently I tried to extend wifi to a further location using a FOURTH node that I purchased through eBay. It was on old firmware and worked okay at first. It upgraded itself to the newest firmware and gave me the dreaded yellow light and I immediately started having disconnects from random devices. I got spooked and removed the new node and everything went back to normal. I returned it to eBay. I don't think I'll try again.

  • Thanks for sharing and good to hear things are now working for you 👍
  • So, based on what you say and how you're now on the latest version without issues, I think I'll give the latest version another go over here as well and will keep my fingers crossed 🙂
  • If it goes south, I can always use my own method used last time to go back again.
