How to connect two network switches to RT-AX86AU

pbc
Star I

Struggling to get two network switches to work properly on my home network.  What is best practices when using two different network switches and an Asus router?

Hardware is as follows:

Xfinity xb6 in bridge mode (Rogers ISP into this), ethernet out from here into the blue Internet port of the Asus RT-86U

Asus RT-AX86U

YuanLey unmanaged 28 Port Gigabit PoE with 2 uplink ports

BV-Tech unmanaged Switch with 2 uplink ports

Also, are there any specific settings I should be adjusting in the Asus firmware/software to get the best data links/speed across the two switches?

Thx

Hi @pbc ,

Thank you for providing detailed information about your network environment. To help us locate your issue, we would like to further confirm:

  1. Simplify the network: Your network architecture is relatively complex. We suggest that you temporarily simplify the network to rule out problems one by one. You can try removing the switch and connecting devices directly to the router to see if the connection is normal.
  2. DHCP server: Please ensure that there is only one DHCP server in your network, which is usually your router. Other devices (such as switches, set-top boxes) should not have DHCP server functionality.
  3. Firmware update: We recommend that you update the firmware of your ASUS RT-AX86U router, YuanLey and BV-Tech switches to the latest version. Firmware updates released by manufacturers usually include bug fixes and performance optimizations.
  4. Network cable check: Try replacing the network cable to rule out the possibility of a cable failure. Ensure that the network cable is not damaged or has poor contact.
  5. Factory reset: If none of the above methods solve the problem, you can restore the router to its factory settings and then reconfigure it. This can help rule out software configuration errors.
  6. Firewall settings: Please check the firewall settings of your router and each device to ensure that no necessary network traffic is blocked.
  7. Specific problem description: To better understand the problem, please describe the network problem in detail, such as:
    Is the network speed slower?
    Is it frequently disconnected?
    Can some devices not connect?
    Are there any error messages?
What is your current network topology? (You can provide a simple diagram)
