How do I configure asus smartconnect RT-BE92U kicking off devices from 6ghz

jimmysofat6864

How can I configure my laptop to stop switching off the 6 ghz band? When I leave or put my computer to sleep and come back, it is on the 5ghz band and not the 6 ghz band. I have the default configuration enabled for Smart Connect rule but I want to know what I should change so it makes my laptop switch to 6 ghz more often.

For reference, when I have the problem, I use my laptop when the 6 ghz band is at -64 dbm and the 5ghz Band is at -48dbm. I still want to use the 6 ghz band despite that. I also have 6ghz preference set in device manager as well.Screenshot 2024-12-28 175217.png

Hi @jimmysofat6864 ,

Thank you for your question about the Smart Connect feature.

Regarding the Smart Connect feature, we would like to explain to you that the Smart Connect algorithm will decide which band to connect the device to based on multiple factors, such as network load, signal strength, and device type. Although it usually prioritizes providing the most stable connection, it cannot always guarantee connection to a specific band, such as 6GHz.

To help you improve your connection experience, we suggest you try the following methods:

  1. Manually connect to the 6GHz band: You can manually select to connect to the 6GHz band in your laptop's network settings to see if you can get a more stable connection.
  2. Fixed IP setting: Setting a fixed IP address for your laptop may improve connection stability. You can find the relevant settings in your laptop's network settings.
  3. Reset the router: Restoring the router to its factory settings and then reconfiguring it can rule out the possibility of software malfunctions.
  4. Distance and interference: If your laptop is far from the router, or there are many wireless devices around, it may affect the connection stability of the 6GHz band. You can try moving your laptop closer to the router or adjusting the direction of the router's antenna.
  5. Mobile phone WiFi settings: If you are using a mobile phone, please check the WiFi settings of your phone. Some phones' WiFi optimization features may affect the operation of Smart Connect. It is recommended that you temporarily turn off the WiFi optimization function of your phone and then re-enable Smart Connect.

Thank you.

How do I adjust the signal threshold so I can make it prefer the 6ghz band more frequently? Which slider should I adjust given my dBm values?
