Struggling to get two network switches to work properly on my home network. What is best practices when using two different network switches and an Asus router?
Hardware is as follows:
Modem: Xfinity Xb6 modem in bridge mode (Rogers ISP into this), ethernet out from here into the blue Internet port of the Asus RT-AX86U
Router: Asus RT-AX86U
YuanLey unmanaged 28 Port Gigabit PoE with 2 uplink ports
BV-Tech unmanaged 16 Port POE Switch with 2 uplink ports
Also, are there any specific settings I should be adjusting in the Asus firmware/software to get the best data links/speed across the two switches?
My understanding has always been to connect the two switches to individual ports on the back of the Asus router, but if I do that, one of the two switches does not work (anything connected to it shows a 169.254.105.197/16 address which implies the switch is not handing out IPs).
So wondering what I am doing wrong?
Thx

Have you tried swapping the uplink cables, it may be that one of the two Ethernet cables from the router to switch is non-standard/faulty?
