Firmware: Signature Version: 2.376 2023/10/17 - Filling System Log with errors

Rooke
Star III

Router: RT-AC66U B1 (AC1750); Firmware Version: 3.0.0.4.51665 ;
On Tuesday, 2023/10/17, I noticed the entire System Log filled with the same repeating errors, all starting with error: "kernel: dcd/22609: potentially unexpected fatal signal 6." The only difference between the errors is the dcd number.

I checked the Administration menu, Firmware Upgrade tab, and found that the Firmware Signature Version had been updated to "2.376 2023/10/17 09:04" which was a couple of hours before I checked the logs.

After seeing that, I unplugged the Router for a few minutes and plugged it in again and let it boot up.

The errors went away for about an hour then came back. Subsequent (4) power off/on resulted in the same situation.

The errors do not seem to be affecting the router's performance, but the problem needs to be addressed by Asus. Attached is a snippet of the errors.

Update details: 24/7, every two minutes exactly, I get an identical multi-line block - repeated six times in less than one second. Then nothing for two minutes and the whole thing repeats - forever? Sample block below:

Nov 5 04:28:16 kernel: dcd/27243: potentially unexpected fatal signal 6.
Nov 5 04:28:16 kernel: Pid: 27243, comm: dcd

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm seeing.  Forever?  It'll probably stop once ASUS pushes a new Signature Firmware update for November.  Or at least I'm hoping it will stop.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

Received this reply from ASUS support (N2310029933-0005)

In accordance to the response from our higher technical team. The log is generated by AiProtection. They suggest to reset the router and then re-enable AiProtection. This should reduce the number of logs generated.

They will update AiProtection version once they fix the log issue.

I got a PM from ASUS that pretty much suggested the same thing... Except I've never had AiProtection enabled, and resetting the router didn't help at all.  And I have no intention of ever enabling AiProtection as I don't care to have any of my information sent off to some third party.

As far as I'm concerned, ASUS corrupted their Signature Firmware like they did back in May - the one that caused everybody's routers to reboot over-and-over due to overloading the router's buffers.

I don't understand why AiProtection was enabled automatically and when this happened. Anyway disabling it didn't help.

ASUS RT-AC66U B1   FW: 3.0.0.4.386_51665

Downgrading to FW: 3.0.0.4.386_51255 and FW: 3.0.0.4.386_46065 didn't help.
