Asus and sky WiFi

Hi

I have been having consistent issues with my Asus/Sky WiFi and recently inconsistency with Sonos and am getting very frustrated. Items lose connections and the Sonos now won't connect and it often drops the signal.

I have enough knowledge to think I'm dangerous but clearly not enough to solve the issue.

Configuration

Full sky fibre running the black sky hub

Sky Q and three mini boxes

Asus Mesh running in AP mode (3 x Asus XT8s and 4 x Asus XD5s)  . (Still have sky WiFi running but only the sky boxes connected to that)

Asus does not handle DHCP as it is in AP mode that's all handled by the sky hub.
I have about 80 devices (ring, hue, Sonos, etc etc) connected by both WiFi and Ethernet.
I have a scheduled ASUS reboot every night.

I have read a lot about replacing the sky router with the Asus Zen WiFi  but don't want to just keep reconfiguring stuff with no improvement. The 2ghz network from Asus seems to be very inconsistent compared to 5ghz network. And the sky q boxes run on 2ghz.

I have spent hours on this and rebooted, unplugged changed channels etc etc with no luck.

Any help would be absolutely amazing. I’m

Hi @acopland ,

Thank you for contacting us. To troubleshoot the network issue you're experiencing, we recommend trying the following steps:

1. Check the network environment:

  • Use a Wi-Fi analyzer: Use a mobile app or computer software to scan for nearby Wi-Fi signals and find the channel with the strongest signal and least interference.
  • Identify interference sources: Check for other electronic devices (such as microwaves, Bluetooth devices) that may be interfering with the wireless signal and try to keep these devices away from the router.

2. Optimize router placement:

  • Choose the best location: Place the router in the center of the room and as far away from walls, metal objects, and other obstacles as possible to ensure maximum signal coverage.
  • Adjust Mesh satellite nodes: If you are using a Mesh network system, ensure that the satellite nodes have a good signal to the main router and adjust their positions to fill in signal dead spots.

3. Update firmware:

  • Keep firmware up-to-date: Regularly update the firmware of your ASUS Mesh router, Sky Hub, and all connected devices to get the latest features and bug fixes.

4. Check device connections:

5. Limit 2.4GHz usage:

  • Prioritize 5GHz: The 5GHz band has less interference and is faster. It is recommended to connect devices that support 5GHz to the 5GHz network to reduce the load on the 2.4GHz network.

6. Test other channels:

  • Adjust channels: Try adjusting the channels of the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks to avoid channels used by other wireless networks nearby to reduce interference.

Thank you.
