X99-M WS - PSU Connections

David_L
Star I

Hello,

I have an ASUS X99-M WS motherboard and bought a new PSU for it.

The motherboard has numerous 'EATX 12V' connections:

  • 2 x 8-pin EATX 12 V Power connector
  • 1 x 6-pin EATX 12 V_1 Power connector(s)
  • 1 x 24-pin EATX Power connector(s)
  • 1 x 8-pin ATX 12V Power connector(s)

My new Corsair CV550 PSU only has the following power cables:

  • 1 x 24-pin
  • 1 x 8-pin CPU
  • 2x 6/8-pin PCI-E

I know to connect the 24-pin cable.  Can I only connect 1x 8-pin cable to the EATX connections above the CPU, leaving the other 8-pin socket empty?  Am I able to use the PCI-E cables and connect to the remaining 8-pin and 6-pin sockets?  Can PCI-E cables be used to power the CPU and other mobo connections?

Other system components:

  • CPU - Intel Xeon E5-E2690-v3
  • GPU - NVIDIA K600
  • 1x SATA HDD 2TB
  • 1x M2.NVME HDD 256GB
  • 1x DVD RW

Thank you

Hello, @David_L

Thank you for your inquiry.
Regarding the PSU connection method, please refer to pages 1-30 and 2-7 of the X99-M WS User Manual for English and correctly connect the power connection for C.EATXPWR, as well as the 4-pin or 8-pin EATX12V power plug.
For the remaining part, you can adjust it according to your hardware power requirements for higher power output.
