Thunderbolt EX4 NVM31 Downgrade ***SUCCESS***

Sugarnutz
Star II

Big thanks to @Jiaszzz_ASUS for making this happen!

Working with an Avid Thunderbolt Native interface, 64 I/O at up to 96KHz over TB1/2. One of the more demanding interfaces out there. Had a few driver issues as Win 11 removed them plus you need to leave your machine off & unplugged for 15 mins or so after the downgrade.

Thanks again!

Hello @Sugarnutz

We are glad you were able to pinpoint the problem. If you encounter any further difficulties or have any concerns, please feel free to DM me anytime.

Thank you.

Posting this publicly as a reference for others.

Ran into another issue or two that I was able to work around but would love a fix for the main one as I've solved the other.

Main thing is on a cold boot I get a

"PCI Express Uplink Switch Port Code 31"

for the Cypress Thunderbolt controller. A warm boot fixes it and the Thunderbolt controller driver loads fine.  Any permanent fix?

Other thing was Windows 11 kept unloading my Avid HD Driver required for my Avid Thunderbolt Native interface. The driver is specific to my version of Pro Tools or the interface needs a firmware update to be compatible with a new driver Win 11 is trying to force feed me. Anyhow I found out my Win 11 license allows me to still use Win 10 so I reinstalled everything with Win 10 and it appears the driver is stable and loads every time except on the cold boot due to no Thunderbolt port available yet as mentioned above.

Thanx 😎

Hello @Sugarnutz

Based on your description, it appears that the operating system downgrade has made it more stable and compatible, suggesting that there might be firmware update or version compatibility issues between Windows 11 and the Avid HD driver.
If you decide to upgrade back to Windows 11 in the future, you may consider manually updating the Avid HD driver or using "Compatibility Mode" to install the driver, which can help prevent it from being automatically uninstalled.
Alternatively, you can reach out to the software provider to confirm any available stable versions or configurations.

Thank you.
