Latest windows update (think it was 24h2) has totally bricked my ASUS laptop.

Hi, a windows 11 version 24h2 update last night has bricked my asus laptop, it just bootloops and goes to win recovery mode, but none of the recovery options work.

A google search has said ASUS and Microsoft are aware of this update causing issues with asus laptops.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Has anyone else had this issue?

Certainly have, though not bricked, thank goodness. I've been trying to get my Vivobook update to 24H2 for nearly two months now. The time I've wasted!

I've tried lots of suggested solutions:

  • Ran the Troubleshooter (it said it had found problems and corrected them but didn't say what !!! Pathetic!)
  • Deleted contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
(i.e. cleared the Windows update cache, that took a long time too ...)
  • Turned off Anti-virus
  • Turned off VPN

Each time I get the same error code: (0x8007001f) if anyone's interested.

And every update attempt takes at least an hour, despite > 500 Mbps and a supposedly decent Core i5. Looking at this forum, I'm going to make a recovery USB key before I go any further.

What with Bluetooth incompatibilities, driver problems and now this, I'm seriously thinking of ditching Asus (despite over 11 years of sticking with them) and switching to Linux.

It seems to be an issue ASUS and Microsoft are aware of on certain ASUS laptop models, but no fix yet and they recommend not to update to it.  ASUS are contacting Microsoft asking them to block this update for my laptop model as they have done for a few other ASUS models.
