Heating is a lot more dependent on ventilation than ambient temperature. If you have air flowing through your phone, it will stay relatively cooler. All phones dissipate maximum heat through screen.
Don't believe me, play pubg on max settings with your home's ceiling fan on and ceiling fan off, you'll see the difference.
My phone reaches 46 degree with ceiling fan off and 42 with ceiling fan on.
Truly this phone could get hot, hot like cooking pan especially the metal frames and copper vent.
I have experience 51 degree while playing pubg 4 hours straight hdr extreme max settings on my phone and in game plus streaming on.
I don't think it's an app because it still heated at a high temperature after a factory reset.
I live in New Zealand on a windy hill. So the temperature is cold here.
Your heating sounds reasonable. Mine gets hot after 5 minutes of looking through my phone settings (because I was figuring out why my phone is hot) and facebooking.
Definitely something is wrong with phone get it fixed at service centre.
Please update after your issue is fixed.
We'd love to know if it was a hardware or software issue.
I understand but what phone doesn't? The question is whether the temperature is normal or safe to reach high temperatures at one point considering the appropriate variables. Heck, this actually can get subjective.
Have you applied any skin or lamination to ur phone??
No, I only used the original protection case that comes with it in the box.
I have full body skin and in box case on top of that. It should not lead to heating. There's an issue with the unit most likely.
It's definitely safe for phone as CPUs can even tolerate 100 degree Celsius, if it gets beyond safe temperature, phone would automatically turn off. The only question is, is this normal behavior of phone or not.
Btw beyond 40 degree battery temperature phone's metal frame becomes too hot too hold.
With or without skin 69 or 70 C is definitely not normal. My max was 49 in X mode on max settings (without cooler) and that was uncomfortable to hold. Couldn't even imagine 70C but as it was said impossible to hold in bare hands. Playing without X mode for several hours my phone got to 41C max. Those are normal temperatures for Rog 2, 40-50C while gaming, everything else is an issue in my opinion.
I agree but according to original poster 70 degree is CPU temperature, not battery its the top left one in console in armory create.
It's is normal to CPU to go to 70 degree while extensive gaming but not in day to day usage.
That screenshot of my temperature status was when I was just browsing through my phone settings and Facebook. I was not even gaming at all that time. The CPU temp would still reach 60-70 degrees Celsius. Plus the phone felt very warm.
Well you just essentially paraphrased what I said....
Definitely it's software issue. After upgrading to A10 my phone is getting a lot. While playing PUBG it's touching to a max of 46°C . While this was not happening on A9. The phone was well optimized at that time but now it is not . So, it can be solved with software update.
As mentioned before, the phone was Android 9
I got a message from the store where I bought the Rog Phone 2 from. They said they couldn't find a problem with the phone and they will return it. Plus I have to pay 80$ nzd because there was no fault found. I will receive the phone a bit later due to the lockdown.
This is frustrating! It's obvious that the phone has issues. It could be hardware because the problem persisted (high heat + fast battery drain) even with factory reset. I remember that I had 21 minutes screen time from that phone and I had 4 hours left of battery (from full battery charge). 4 HOURS!! Seriously, what phone has 4 hours battery life?!
I'll run another test when I get my phone back. I can't believe this phone can have many issues.
Also, The store said that the guys who assesed my phone was from the manufacturer themselves (I'm assuming ASUS). Seriously, I bet ASUS didn't assess my phone well.
Oh wow... That is horrible and unacceptable. Really sorry to hear about what happened, can any mod assist this gentleman?
I am facing similar issue .. i dont know what to do.. i brought the phone online..
No store opened because of lockdown.. :(
Wasn't expecting such degraded performance :(
I am thinking that android 10 update is making it do so.. no issues with android 9 ..
Overheating in normal basic work.. frame drops in pubg.
I tried factory setting reset.. no improvement till now about overheating..
