no mic on call

On the latest android 10 build (WW_17.1810.1910.68) the other side can't hear me on phone calls unless if I use a headset with a seperate mic, the built-in mic in the phone works though in the camera app and the recorder app, this is after a factory data reset and a reboot doesn't fix it, the same issue happens if I use the tmobile digits app instead of the asus dialer app by the way, I don't want to have to carry a headset with me at all times in order to be able to make a phone call

Whether I call someone or someone calls me - I do not get any call audio through my 3.5mm headset. Toggling Speakerphone does not help. Toggling bluetooth does not help.

Phone recognizes that a 3.5mm headset has been plugged in, and like I said playing music or youtube audio works fine. It is solely call audio that does not work.

I am not on T-Mobile.

Just by chance I found a cheap pair of 3.5mm earbuds with a mic. I was able to call another line and both sides could hear audio fine. I rebooted a few times and confirmed that it still worked each time. It actually worked fine without any tricks (just like Bluetooth does). I should say I only tried outgoing calls.
The xda thread posted above included someone saying that the November 7 firmware fixed the headphone issue. Have you tried another headset?

But your speakers are fine? This might be a different issue.

What carrier are you on?

I don't have 3.5 phones with me to test. I'd be curious to try:

  1. Initiate call, uplug 3.5 then plug it back in.
  2. Unplug 3.5 then initiate call and then plug them in.

Neither would be ideal but info would be interesting and might at least be an annoying work around. (Although I guess unplugging the 3.5 and using the phone alone would already qualify as an annoying work around if you're wanting to keep the 3.5 connected.)

Ok here's my full list of testing
Plug in 3.5mm
Call voicemail (no audio)
While still on call, unplug, plug back in 3.5mm (no audio)
Hang up, keep 3.5mm plugged in, play "The Sopranos - The end of Jack Massarone" on youtube (audio works)
Try and call voicemail again - youtube video paused (again no call audio) - toggling "Media Volume" in settings while on call makes a sound via 3.5mm headset

All headsets even my fancy Sony MDR1RBTs in 3.5mm mode no longer work.

Tried to get logcat logs relevant info from what I can tell it looks like it recognizes I plug it in, but I can't tell why it isn't working.

After using the toggle speakerphone fix, I got a call from someone and audio was coming out of both speakers. Toggling speakerphone on and off fixed it such that audio only came out of the earpiece speaker. Weird.

Odd. I just messaged someone else who said that the OEM buds worked fine for calls. And my cheap ones worked normally. You're on the latest WW firmware (WW-17.1810.1910.68 )? Did you try the OEM buds? Is this after a factory reset (uggh just did that the other day)?
