Not only gmail and chrome but many apps like skype, amazon and many more are crashing since this morning. I tried to fix this with traditional remedies like updating apps, reinstalling them, restarting phone for twice, wipe cache. It seems like there is problem with the last update or some other issue with the software. Did anyone get any solution to this?

Why asus is not responding every one having problem with their new software update

Disable Google chrome, Restart phone, Enable Google Chrome all apps are working fine with this. No need to do Factory Data reset.
