Zenfone 8 died 4 months after warranty - most likely mother board issue

Hi,

I have bought the top version of the Zenfone 8 16/256 back in August 2021. On New Year 01.01.2024 phone froze, and after hard reset, it didn't turn on again, and no life can be seen, no charge light, no hard reset, nothing 😞 So phone died 4 months after warranty ended 😞

MFD: 2021.04

Had a quick chat with CS on the diagnostics and possible cost of mother board and, the cost would reach up to 700 EUR 😮

Am I at fault that i trusted Asus with their phones? And now i have really expensive brick?

Can the phone be fixed somehow? Can Asus help, if this is related to faulty motherboards (or solder on it)?

Or Asus can only help me with the 700EUR receipt (a price of a brand new phone almost ;( )

Well, my phone went from the Netherlands to Poland for repair, twice, but without any results. They send it to their Asus service center in Poland. Probably there aren't any service centers nearby, because sending a phone across Europe just for diagnosing seems not that efficient. I found out the hard way that these Asus phones are like a hot potato to phone repair shops. Not a single one I contacted wants to even try to service it. Makes it even more difficult and frustrating, especially when out of warranty. But I am willing to breach my warranty for this, because the warranty of Asus seems nothing more than a quick diagnose run and when 'the problem can't be duplicated', nothing happens and you recieve your phone unrepaired. I expect a bit more service and problem solving effort than this from a flagship phone/ price.

I can dm you the address of the repair center? Because you are out of warranty, I don't expect Asus will do much for you. Maybe you can send it on your own behalve to that repair.

I myself bought a backup phone, because all of this Asus stuff took too long. And when reading about all the issues with the Zenfone, it feels like a certainty they die anyway sooner or later. They have proven to be far from reliable phones, because all the issues seem to be alike; dying, draining, heating up etcetera. It seems better to look for an alternative. A shame, because I like the formfactor of small phones. But these Zenfones only gave me a headache, with two phones, a 100% failure score.

Please DM me with the details of that service center, and i will verify. As i was callin ghte official one, and as i have written in the first post, they don't fix stuff they just replace components, which this case might be mother board with the price tag of a new premium phone (meaning all my not backed up data will be lost)

check your dm.

I agree that it is a shame to see the issues - I had no idea before 20th December that this was occurring, and have never had a phone just fail in the past. I had experienced no heating or battery issues.

I bought my phone direct from Asus, and the warranty claim has been processed (so far) with no problem. From other posts, I guess that it is a replacement motherboard - which from this site www.a-accessories.com/zenfone/zenfone-8 is 499USD (interestingly all three different versions are the same price), so this isn't really a cost effective repair.

Mine went to the ASUS Czech Service in Ostrava

I have lost some WhatsApp messages - the day the phone failed, and one photo taken at the airport 5 mins before the fail, which I retook at a lower quality. My photos are backed up to OneDrive - usually within a few mins of being taken.

Hmm thanks for the info, 500USD looks better than 700EUR i got from Asus in PL, but still it is a bit overpriced for how old the phone is, that you can alsmot buy a new one with some extra spare change. But if i would need to buy a new phone, most likely it will not be Asus anymore... I have some old Nokia 8, and Xperia Z3 Compact which are old as F, but still no issues with MoBo and those had Memory card slots.
