My Zenfone 8 has just 2 hours ago joined the ever growing team of bricked Zenfones. I have, just like most with this issue used it for only about 2 years.
It does not start or charge anymore. I tried all the common key combinations to restart it but nothing happens. The only life sight it gives is that it is turning warm.
Before that I been having issues with the rear camera for the last week. It was only working in WhatsApp but no other app.
I am quite angry as I've read here, in reddit and Facebook that thousands of others have the same issue at around the 2 years mark. I have my banking apps linked to that phone which have my banking authenticatos so I can't even transfer money anymore or access banking , my two factor authenticator and my Password Manager are also in there which I can now not access. so basically my whole digital life is in there. Besides that I can't access my WhatsApp and can't get in touch with my business contacts.
This seems to be a design error or just simply planned obsolescence and Asus should repair all our phones free of charge.

I have a spare phone. I am using now my old MiA3 and got most things back. But WhatsApp seriously screwed up. Since it was my old phone I still had WhatsApp on it and when I signed in WhatsApp though it is a great idea to overwrite my latest backup with the data from my old MI A3. so now all my WhatsApp data is gone. One of the reasons why I prefee using telegram.
As for the repair I don't know if Asus is going to do anything even ita clearly a quality issue caused by them. And 500 for a new motherboard does not make any sense. Rather just buy a new phone or give it a try to reball the process.

Thanks - that's a good point re Whats App. I've just uninstalled it from my backup Sony.
