Sadly, I’ve reached the same conclusion as many others: the ROG Phone 6 has a serious and well-known camera issue, and it’s incredibly frustrating — especially considering this is supposed to be a flagship gaming device.
In my case, the issue is centered around the front (selfie) camera. Here's what happens:
When opening the camera app, the selfie camera either doesn’t work at all, or it becomes completely unresponsive.
If it does open, there are weird pixelation issues and distorted image quality.
On the main camera, it used to show zoom levels like 0.6x and 1x. But after the issue appeared, it now shows 0.6x – 1x – 2x, and both 0.6 and 1x appear to be ultra-wide or macro — it’s all messed up.
During video calls on apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger:
The camera fails to activate, or
The call crashes entirely, or
It simply doesn’t allow any video input at all.
Strangely, the selfie cam sometimes works, but only for taking pictures, and only when using third-party apps (like those from the Play Store) or in-app camera tools on Facebook or WhatsApp. But even then, the quality is noticeably worse, almost like it's using a fallback sensor or default software rendering instead of the actual front camera hardware.
Some say it’s a hardware issue (possibly the front camera module), others say it’s software-related, especially since it appears inconsistently and affects only some apps. Honestly, I believe it’s a mix of both — a poorly integrated bug that ASUS has never properly addressed.
I had the motherboard replaced once during warranty, and the problem still came back. Now out of warranty, I was told at the official ASUS lab:
“It’s not worth fixing. You might want to go back to your old phone or just buy a different one."
I ended up switching back to my older ROG 3. But it’s outdated — no security updates, many apps don’t work properly anymore, and even Google Wallet is unsupported, which affects my ability to use basic services like mobile payments.
And that’s what makes it even more frustrating — I’m not just some casual user.
I’ve been an ASUS fan for years.
I use ASUS for everything — phone, laptop, desktop, gaming mouse, keyboard, headphones, even notepads. I own their shirts, hats, and even collectible figures like Omni and Seven.
I chose ASUS because I believed in the brand.
That’s why this issue feels personal — because when something this basic breaks and no real solution is offered, it shakes that trust.
ASUS should offer a solution — whether it’s a software fix, repair program, or even a replacement option for affected users. This isn’t a rare defect. It’s a widespread, known flaw in a premium device.
If you've had the same issue — you're not alone. And frankly, we deserve better.

Clearly, the developers do not even care about their users. They simply cannot fix issues like this. We are paying for a gaming phone like this and do not even receive decent updates.
