Please tell us some basic information before asking for help:
Model Name: ROG Phone 3
Firmware Version: WW_Phone-31.0210.0210.243-0
Rooted or not: Nope
Frequency of Occurrence: -
APP Name & APP Version (If your issue relates to the app): Camera App
In addition to information above, please also provide as much details as you can, e.g., using scenario, what troubleshooting you've already done, screenshot, etc.
========================================
I bought my ROG 3 from Amazon and it shipped from Japan, since then I've been trying to mute the camera shutter sound since it's pretty annoying mostly while taking a video.
I read online that in Japan and South Korea it has something to do with stalker taking unwanted pictures silently.
I don't really want to root my phone but is it somewhat possible to disable camera shutter sound?
I tried searching for a global version of the Camera App but find nothing online. I tried to update the ROG 3 Camera app but it seems the app is nowhere to be found on Google Play.

Uh, pretty sure it depends on the app since Instagram doesn't play shutter audio. The reason I don't use it is because of how compressed the saved picture / video is.

Thats because instagram does not take a picture, it only takes a screenshot of your viewfinder.

Well in both taking picture and video, it's possible to not have sounds played and that's what I'm after.
I believe the shutter sound is triggered by the software itself that's been modified specifically for Japan region. Hence, a software change would probably give me a result that I wanted.

I repeat, instagram, snapchat and facebook do not use the camera. All they do is take a screenshot of the viewfinder, video simply records the video finder, this is why the quality is terrible.
Do a simple experiment, download opencamera from play store and try to take a picture, you will notice the sound is still there. If your theory is correct, that means it shouldnt be there.

I did your experiment and OpenCamera doesn't play the shutter sound and for the record Facebook does use the camera and it plays the shutter sound despite being on mute + do not disturb.
I'm still waiting for a follow up from ASUS staff here because apparently from my theory and from that experiment it's proven that it's doable to mute the sound.
