I can definetly relate to all the posts here who were disappointed by 8 series.
I jumped from 5s to 8 just a month ago. That was a huge moment for me. As soon as I'm using Asus phones for many years. I had Zenfone 2, Zenfone 3, Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5z, Rog 5s.
And the most significant part during all the years stays PRICE. Each new series increasing dramatically fast. And sadly, it happens much faster than the upgrade of actual quality of the product. For the past 10 years as Im a fan of Asus phones the price increased from 330$+ to 800$+ (+240%).
I still love Asus. But it becomes harder and harder to stay loyal. Talking about 8 series:
First of all, main disappointment for me is SOUND. 5s had an amazing sound! 3 times better than Rog 8 has. 5s had a hardbass, perfect placement of speakers and they were way louder. Now i have to put my phone almost to the max volume on 8 and it is still not enough. 5s had outdoor mode. So it could be even more louder. 8 series is really quiet.
Next one, CAMERA. I got used to the idea that Rog series - let's call this - 'are not for Insta Blogers'. These series are for gamers. So users has no expectanions towards Rog to create great photos or videos. So my disappointment is not about the usability and quality of camera tools. But about the camera physically. I mean, this huge part at the back of the phone is giant. So I'm not able to place my phone on the table so it would lay flat. All i can say about shoots. Yeah, quallity is much better but im still checking the stabilizer, i hope im not wrong. Problem is that during shooting process i feel myself as a sailor who is trying to stop this 'floating' frame. Is it actually ok? Because when I watch at the floating scene longer to try to create a better shot... i will definetly catch a seasickness soon.
Ingame expierience for me hasn't changed much. It is still fast, smooth etc. i just noticed that the phone heats 3-5 C degrees less. 5s had 41C - 8 series has 36-38C. I usually have sessions lasting from 100% to 10% battery. After that i put the phone on charger. Never had higher than 40C anyways that way as well.
Yeah, the are cons as well. The phone become lighter, smaller. I really like screen brightness.
I love Aura. I love ROG UI. But I had that in 5s as well.
Also I'm still disappointed in technical support of the series. In 2 years your fast, awesome asus phone becomes forgotten by creators. As soon as updates are not available for old phones. Yeah, it's understandable, Asus wants us to buy phones more often.
But... it always work till the last acceptable innovation.
Probably, that' gonna be my last Asus phone. And in couple of years ill jump to another gaming phone which would more support towards it's users.
I hope, my feedback would be read and took into consideration during next upcoming series.
