ROG Strix Fn Key

Hello,

Is there any possibility to make Fn key work with Ctrl/Alt in any order pressed?

I had no idea this will be such an annoyance. Trying to execute "Alt + Insert" combination you have to go for:

Fn + Alt  + delete/insert key

Alt + Fn + delete/insert key does not react.

As I am a developer and the insert key is simply used all the time I am quite annoyed 😞

The behavior you described with the Fn key not working in combination with Alt or Ctrl in any order pressed is likely due to the way the keyboard hardware is designed on your specific device. Many laptops have a different arrangement of their keyboard matrix, which can affect how certain key combinations are recognized.

Unfortunately, this behavior is usually not configurable through software settings or the operating system. It is a hardware limitation that is determined by the laptop's keyboard design and circuitry.

As a developer, I understand that certain key combinations are essential for your workflow, and it can be frustrating when they don't work as expected. If the Fn key is preventing you from using specific combinations, there are a few potential workarounds you could consider:

  1. Use an External Keyboard: Consider using an external keyboard with your laptop. External keyboards often have a more standard layout and may not have the same limitations as the built-in laptop keyboard.

  2. Key Remapping Software: Some third-party software tools allow you to remap keys on your keyboard. You could explore if any of these tools can help you remap the Fn key or reconfigure the key combinations you frequently use.

  3. Alternate Keyboard Shortcuts: If possible, try using different keyboard shortcuts for the actions you perform frequently. This might involve changing settings in the applications you use or finding alternative shortcuts that don't involve the problematic key combinations.

  4. Explore BIOS/UEFI Settings: In some cases, certain laptop models may have options in the BIOS/UEFI settings that allow you to modify the behavior of the Fn key. You can try checking your laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings to see if any options are available.

  5. Contact Manufacturer Support: If the issue is causing significant inconvenience, you could reach out to the laptop manufacturer's support to see if they have any insights or suggestions for addressing the problem.

Please note that not all laptops have the same capabilities or options, so the availability of the above solutions may vary depending on your specific laptop model. Always exercise caution when making changes to your system settings, and consider creating backups or restore points before attempting any modifications.
