problem with driver update

Subject: GTX 1060 (GL502VM) – HDMI output lost when no internal LCD is connected, only on newer drivers

Dear NVIDIA Support Team,

I am writing to report a reproducible display output issue with a GeForce GTX 1060 installed in an ASUS ROG GL502VM motherboard. I am using this board as a standalone system (no laptop chassis, no internal LCD panel) with an external monitor connected via HDMI.

System details:

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (Pascal, GP106M)

  • Motherboard: ASUS GL502VM

  • CPU: Intel Core i7 (soldered on board)

  • Display: External monitor, 24", connected via HDMI only

  • Internal LCD: Not present (no panel, no eDP flex cable)

  • OS: Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)

  • Cooling: Modified CPU heatsink, system runs stable

Problem description:

  • With older drivers (e.g. 376.xx / 378.xx, 2016–2017 era), HDMI output works perfectly. The system boots, displays on the external monitor, and runs normally.

  • With any newer driver (472.12 or later, including current releases), the display output is completely lost after the driver loads. The external monitor shows "No Signal", and the system becomes unusable for gaming.

  • This happens only when the internal LCD is absent. Users who reconnect the original LCD panel (or even just the eDP flex cable) report that HDMI output returns on newer drivers.

What I have already tried:

  1. Clean installation using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode.

  2. Multiple driver versions between 472.12 and the latest available.

  3. Different HDMI cables and monitors.

  4. BIOS is up to date (latest available from ASUS for this model).

My questions:

  1. Is there a known issue in newer NVIDIA drivers where display output fails when no internal panel is detected on this platform?

  2. Is there any registry key, driver setting, or INF modification that can force HDMI output when no internal display is present?

  3. Can this be escalated to the driver team as a compatibility regression for the GL502VM platform?

This is a documented issue in user communities, and the only workaround currently is staying on an outdated driver, which prevents running modern games such as Call of Duty: Vanguard (requires 472.12+).

I am happy to provide logs, GPU-Z reports, or run any diagnostic tool you recommend.

Thank you for your time.

@Azahedi
Based on your description, the GL502VM motherboard is currently being used outside of its original laptop configuration, without the original internal LCD panel or eDP connection.
Please note that the GL502VM was designed and validated to operate with its original internal display configuration. Therefore, we cannot confirm the expected graphics output behavior or driver compatibility when the motherboard is operated as a standalone system with the internal display hardware removed.
You also mentioned that HDMI output returns with newer NVIDIA drivers when the original internal display connection is restored. This further indicates that the behavior is related to the modified hardware configuration.
We recommend testing the system with the original internal display hardware configuration restored and using the graphics driver provided for the GL502VM.
Thank you for your understanding.

Dear asus teams.there isnt any internal monitor and i didnt  tell hdmi output back.I hope you can suggest me a way to use hdmi output without internal lcd

@Azahedi
As the GL502VM was designed and validated for use with its original hardware configuration, we are unable to guarantee HDMI output functionality or driver compatibility when the motherboard is operated without the internal display hardware.

Unfortunately, we do not have a verified driver setting, registry modification, or alternative solution that would enable HDMI output under this modified configuration.

Thank you for your understanding.
