XT9 Guest Network only working for WiFi 6 devices after firmware Update

nihil
Star I

After updating the firmware to 3.0.0.4.388_24709-g15d5e47 on my XT9 mesh system (3 nodes), the Guest Network stopped working for older devices, including:

  • Nokia 7 Plus – Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band
  • OnePlus 2 – Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e – Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band

The main (non-Guest) network works fine for these devices. The Guest Network, however, only works for Wi-Fi 6-capable devices.

Before the firmware update, all my devices could connect to the Guest Network without any issues. The problem started after the upgrade.

Disabling Wi-Fi 6 compatibility (Wireless -> General -> 802.11ax / Wi-Fi 6 mode -> Disable) didn't help—older devices still can't connect.

Any idea how to fix it?

P.S. I connected a cheap Wi-Fi 6 travel router to one of the XT9 nodes via Ethernet and created my own Guest Network. It works with all my older devices... but c'mon, Asus.

Hi @nihil ,

Thank you for your inquiry.

To better understand the guest network connectivity issue you are experiencing, please provide the following information:

  1. Guest network settings confirmation: Is your guest network option only set on the main router in the AiMesh network? Please note that AiMesh nodes do not have guest network function options. [Wireless Router] How to set up Guest Network on ASUS Router? | Official Support | ASUS Global
  2. Router reset test: Have you tried performing a hard reset on the router and then reconfiguring it to confirm whether all devices can connect successfully? [Wireless Router] When Standard Reset Isn’t Working: Hard Factory Reset - Models list | Official Sup...
  3. System problem report: If you still cannot connect after resetting, please assist in using the system's built-in problem reporting function to submit the relevant information.

Please follow the steps below to report the issue, and we will assist you:

  1. Connect your device (PC, laptop, etc.) to the router, then open the Web management interface (http://router.asus.com/) and log in to your router.

Additionally, please send us the following information via private message: product serial number, the time the problem report was submitted, the email used for the problem report, the time the issue occurred, the MAC address of your device, and a network architecture diagram of your current environment.

If your network is down, the UI page will generate a link for downloading offline data. Please click the link to download the data, compress it into a ZIP file, and provide a cloud link for us to analyze.

I can confirm the exact same issue with my XT8 mesh system after upgrading from 3.0.0.4.388_24688 to 3.0.0.4.388_24709.

All my smart home devices, like lightbulbs etc., are unable to (re)join the 2.4GHz guest network.

@Aureliannn_ASUS can the team investigate and issue a fix for this please?
