Unable to connect remotely to OpenVPN server on ASUS router

I have an OpenVPN router setup on my ZenWifi router (ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8)). I have successfully set up such VPNs in the past, but cannot connect to this one remotely.
When I am on Wifi locally, I can connect successfully to the VPN with a client.
What could be causing the problem of accessing it remotely? Is it a configuration issue?

may I ask whether you mean you cannot use XT8 to set up open VPN?

Please make sure that you follow the below steps to set up VPN.

In "Client will use VPN to access" under Web GUI, if you choose [Local network only], it means when the VPN client connects to the VPN server, it can only access the LAN under the VPN server.

If you choose  [Internet and local network], it means when the client connects to the VPN server, it can access the LAN under the VPN server at the same time, and can also access the Internet through the VPN server.

Try change the setting and confirm whether the issue still occur.
