Proart z790 thunderboltport and Universal Audio Hardware

bangthebox
Star I

Here are my current specs on my build:

  • CPU: Intel i7 14900K
  • Motherboard: Asus ProArt Z790
  • GPU: NVIDIA 4080
  • RAM: 64GB GSkill DDR5 (2x32GB)
  • NVMe Drives: WD 4tb sn850x
  • Audio Interface: Apollo X8 (1st gen w/ updated TB3 card) & UAD 2- Satellite Octo-core
  • Thunderbolt Cable: 2 x Apple Thunderbolt 4

Here is the problem:

Universal Audio is a high end Audio interface that I've been having issues with. It looks like the TB4 port detects my interface, but when I daisy chain it to the Universal Audio Octocore satellite (also detected) it seems i'm not able to add many plugins as usual, and then the software starts giving a code 38 error. From my extensive background research, It is possible to daisy chain, but i'm wondering if it's a problem with the Z790 mobo.

reference listed here for win 11 compatibility: h t t p s://help.uaudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/214617226-UA-Device-Compatibility-with-Apollo-Thunderb...

Asus, are there known issues with this type of setup? Is this mobo not meant to handle a daisy chain and only works with one propietary device at a time per port?

Hello, @bangthebox

Could you please specify when the issue of being unable to install plugins occurred and whether it happened after any specific software or hardware changes?
Which software presented the error code 38?
Based on your description, considering that the system can correctly identify the device, apart from updating the BIOS and thunderbolt or related drivers, we would suggest cross-testing by connecting to another motherboard for confirmation.
In addition, you could also may want to consult with the audio interface device manufacturer regarding relevant settings and specifications.

Thank you.
