ASUS Pro WS W680-ACE IPMI not recognizion pcie devices

Star I

I recently bought a ASUS Pro WS W680-ACE IPMI and I am having problems with it recognizing pci-e devices connected to it. I tried connecting a pci-e x4 Mellanox MCX311A-XCAT 10GB nic card and it wont recognize it. I already tested on another PC and it works fine. I also tested with an LSI 9211-8i card and it has the same issue it will not recognize it. I read on some forums about enabling csm mode but when I go to the bios option it is greyed out.

I already updated to the latest version the following but it did not help:

  1. bios -> 4001
  2. ipmi -> 1.1.35
  3. ME -> 16.1.32.24

Another problem I have with the board is that the IPMI Remote KVM display wont show anything, it only shows a blank screen with `No Signal` text.

Any help will be appreciated since I really like this board and would like to avoid returning it again (I already returned one with the same issue thinking it was defective).

Hello @mforce22

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Regarding the Pro WS W680-ACE, which already has a built-in network card, may I inquire about your specific requirements for installing an additional network card?
Could you please assist us by providing the official websites for the Mellanox MCX311A-XCAT 10G and LSI 9211-8i so that we can further verify the specifications?
We would also appreciate it if you could share the relevant information using the following template:
- the image of the BIOS main page, the OS version, and OS build.
- the brand, model, and installation slots or ports of the CPU, GPU, RAM (including part numbers), SSD/HDD, and PSU.
- are there any extensions or adapters used to connect any devices, such as GPU or SSD?
Regarding the IPMI Expansion Card and remote access, hardware connection or incorrect IP configuration could cause issues with remote access.
We recommend visiting the IPMI Expansion Card official website, referring to the user manual to ensure all cables are correctly installed, and reviewing the FAQs for troubleshooting.
Please refer to the Pro WS W680-ACE BIOS and ASUS Control Center Express user manual as well, if needed.
If you encounter any difficulties or concerns while following the instructions, please kindly provide images to help us better understand your situation.

Thank you.

Hello Thanks for the response, The reason for adding an extra card is the need a card that provides 10Gbps speeds which MCX311A-XCAT provides.

Bios Version: 4001

mforce22_2-1735447595601.jpeg

OS Version: TrueNAS Scale 24.10.1

SSD: SanDisk SSD PLUS 240GB

PSU: Corsair SF Series (2024) SF850, 80 PLUS Platinum, Fully Modular SFX Power Supply, CP-9020256-NA

CPU: Intel i7 14700
Memory: Kingston Server Premier 32GB 4800MT/s DDR5 ECC CL40 DIMM 2Rx8 Hynix M Server Memory - KSM48E40BD8KM-32HM

PCIEX16 slots:

PCIEX16(G5)_1: ASRock Intel ARC A380 Challenger

PCIEX16(G5)_2: Empty
PCIEX16(G3)_1: MCX311A-XCAT 10G

PCIEX16(G3)_2: LSI 9211-8i

There are no extensions or adapters for GPU or SSD.

So I started troubleshooting and if I move either the  LSI 9211-8i card or the MCX311A-XCAT 10G PCIE card to the PCIEX16(G5)_2 slot they work fine, but if they do not work when they are installed on the PCIEX16(G3)_1 or PCIEX16(G3)_2 slots.

As per the IPMI Expansion card it is not a network issue since I am able to login the Dashboard just fine, it is just when I try to launch the remote control tool that it won't display anything.
