I just received a brand new ASUS gaming laptop from iBuyPower.com today. Opened up the box, powered it on, and set up Windows 10. Cortana was talking just fine, no issues whatsoever. However, some times after the initial setup was completed, any soudn that could come from the laptop had ceased. The things i installed since the setup are Steam and Firefox.
To attempt to remedy the situation, i've tried updated the sound drivers, updating Windows 10, and I even utilized the auto-recover tool to do a system restore. Nothing seems to fix the problem.
