I have brought device August 12 ,2020 through flipkart first sale at 6auhust. I was very happy until i open netflix ,it has vert bad black crush issue even at full brightness ,in 50pecent brightness colour washed out heavy black crush issue is this hardware or software issue??anyway im just gonna refund ....but i asked some of YouTubers they have none issue ,but for fellow customers only have this😓. I decided to live with this but some of units have no issue why i wanna live with this issue for years so i try to get refund and but 12gb varient.
In YouTube crush issue is little low when compared to netflix and amazon prime ,rather than that this dev is beast 😍
I have noticed heat in aero active coller side(40°to43°) always while playing pupg at 90hz,balanced,extream . although I'm staying in AC room 22°c all time!

Hello im new here. I did a search on "black crush" issue and found this. Is this true that "black crush" is a hardware problem? I thought somebody said on this forum that "black crush" issue is software problem.. And required update later to fix it. So i was wondering if u could give me your opinion on this one. Since i like Rog 3 and wanted to buy it. At the moment im still hold my money and did some research 1st to see if this is software problem. if it is software problem then i will buy it and wait for the update to fix the "black crush" issue. Pls reply.. Thanks

It is entirely software related. I made a video explaining why this is happening. It's basicially happening because screens are getting brighter and OLED's actually shift gamma based on brightness due to them not having layers but instead have everything in 1 pixel.

Here is an explanation as to why black crush is happening and how Asus can fix it. It also explains how this is NOT a hardware defect even with an example.

I hope this will clearify a great deal and that you guys need to stop spreading weird nonsense like its caused by high refreshrate screens, hardware defect or that asus cheaped out on displays. Just chill a little bit and let asus fix it, and Asus you need to stop the hotfixes, it's seriously doing more damage than good.

Hope to see much less black crush topics as it's really getting old by now.

Black Crush explained ( Rog3 / OP 8 )

It is 100% software and its becoming more and more common. All HDR display based phones have some sort of black crush. My roomies Motorolla one Zoom with 60hz OLED also has black crush, however its very hard to notice, if you look specifically for it youll find it on every single phone, however some phones attempt to clibrate their screens to get the optimal image making the black crush significantly worse, in the Rog3 and OP8Pros case it's most likely caused by Pixelworks software.
The only real fix is to implement a software solution that will add different color profiles based on current brightness and not just have 1 profile for all brightness levels.

Also I need to stress this out, the Rog3 is absolutely not worth buying for normal consumers. The phone is more for enthusiasts that know what their are doing. Most issues you find here on the forums are mostly user caused because the phone has so many features and settings where users can fk somethnig up.
Also never buy a phone because you think it's fixable in the future, buy a phone youll be happy with from the getgo and if it has issues that you can live with it. Just because it's fixable and will most likely be fixed in the future, doesn't make it near future.

If you game horror games or Minecraft yes,but for the popular games like pubg Cod or genshin impact it's performance and colours are better than even the 12 pro max
