Android 12 (. 107) screen brightness problem

Same problem as this thread (https://zentalk.asus.com/en/discussion/56396/problems-with-android-12) with latest available release (. 107) and after factory reset.
Problem is the screen remains at low brightness level even with lots of ambient light and despite the toggle showing >80%.

Please reset your adaptive brightness settings by navigating to:
Settings -> Search settings for 'Device Health Services' -> App info -> Storage & cache -> Clear storage -> Reset adaptive brightness
After this, please clear cache files system-wide and then reboot your device.
Settings -> Advanced -> Mobile Manager -> Cleanup
