Fingerprint sensor lagging

Hi, Fingerprint sensor on Asus ZenFone 8 Flip is lagging.
I am disappointed. My previous phone in a mid range category had a perfect sensor that worked instantly. This one - I touch not only much longer but also multiple times as it is usually fails to recognise my fingers. I re-added fingers multiple times.
The price is inadequate for this quality of phone.
