The free version has limitation. You need to have OneDrive installed (from the Play Store) and to have a Microsoft Account to register in it , then you install Microsoft 365 from the Play Store . It will use OneDrive to open Word etc and to save documents in it . From the menu at the bottom you will have the possibility to install the other applications of Office. Outlook needs to be separately downloaded from the Play Store

Inspite of installing one drive, it is asking to upgrade Microsoft 365

It is normal that it is asking to upgrade to the paid version, but you do not have to, if you are happy to use the more limited functionality. you should be able to escape from that screen asking you to upgrade, for example clicking on the OneDrive icon at the bottom left side and opening OneDrive with your documents, or by escaping from that screen where the paid version is advertised, clicking from the left bottom arrow of the android navigation.
