Power Supply always necessary while using an USB-C-Dock?

Hi there,
as I am new to the topic "USB-C" I need some advice. I've purchased an AUKEY USB-C-Dock for my Zenbook. On the USB-C Dock I've connected my monitor, my mouse and the keyboard. You can also connect a power supply directly to the hub. Everything is working fine even you don't have connected the power supply to the hub or the PC.
But I have doubts if I always should use a power supply while using an USB-C-Hub.
Please advise
