Installing Ubuntu wasn't straightforward, but was possible as follows:
Disable Optane
Add nouveau.modeset=0 to Linux startup options of installer
Install Ubuntu
Install proprietary nvidia drivers in Software Update
However, after that, Ubuntu still isn't working great. Idle CPU seems high, scrolling is not smooth, and after a while, the touchpad and keyboard stop responding to input, forcing a hard reset. It's unfortunate, because I like the device and it seems to work great in Windows, but not being able to dual boot with Ubuntu is a dealbreaker and I may have to take it back to Best Buy.
Any tips for how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
