Choosing an everyday student laptop

Hi, I am a PhD student in the United States. I'm planing to buy a laptop. But I found your website very difficult because none of the filters I chose were applied to the list of the laptops shown to me. Second, prices are not given against any of the laptop shown in the list. Please help me.
