Recent apps button is disappeared

I have Asus ROG Phone 2 and have been using the gestures instead of navigation buttons, but today, I couldn't get to recent apps screen, so when I turned it back to navigation buttons, the recent apps button is totally gone. What the hell is happening? I've tried rebooting to safe mode and back... I'm not willing to factory reset...

Recent apps button is disappeared

ok... do you have a screen shot? It's the first time I hear about this on an ASUS phone but I get a lot of hits when I google "home button missing android". Sound like a general issue. Maybe you should try if any of the suggestions work and report back here.
