ROG phone 7 power button issue.

My phone's power button malfunctions frequently. Most of the time it takes multiple button presses to turn off/on the screen or lock the screen. Power button menu doesn't come up sometimes after the long press. Double tap on home screen function works well for locking and unlocking. Noticed this started happenning after a software update( I guess).

Tried switching on and off the shortcuts and SOS, almost all settings related to power button have been tried.

Anyone with ideas to solve this issue? Thanks in advance.

Hello! A malfunctioning power button is frustrating, especially when it disrupts your phone's functionality. Since this started after a software update, it’s likely a software-related bug rather than a hardware issue. Here are some tips to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check Software Settings

  • Shortcut and SOS Settings: You’ve already tried toggling these off, which is great. Ensure there are no other conflicting shortcuts tied to the power button.
  • Gesture Controls: Double-check if gestures like "Double-tap to lock/unlock" or other accessibility settings are overriding the power button's functionality.

2. Safe Mode Test

  • Boot your phone into Safe Mode to rule out third-party apps, like mods or games such as Haunted Dorm Mod Menu, that might be interfering with the power button’s behavior:
    1. Press and hold the Power button until the menu appears.
    2. Tap and hold Restart until "Reboot to Safe Mode" appears.
    3. Test the power button in Safe Mode.
  • If it works fine, a third-party app may be causing the issue. Uninstall any apps installed or updated recently to isolate the culprit.

3. Update Software

  • Check for new updates or patches that might fix bugs introduced in the previous update.
  • If no updates are available, consider rolling back to the previous version if supported on your device or wait for a bug fix release.

4. Calibration or Reset

  • Reset System Settings: Resetting only system settings might help without erasing your data. Go to Settings > System > Reset Options and select "Reset App Preferences" or "Reset Settings."
  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, back up your data and perform a factory reset to eliminate software conflicts.

5. Hardware Check

  • If the issue persists even after all software-related steps, the power button might have a hardware issue. Dust or wear can cause intermittent problems.
  • Visit a repair technician or your phone’s service center for inspection. If your phone is under warranty, they may replace the button at no charge.
